The Norwegian Breakaway arrived in New York earlier this week after a trip across the Atlantic from Europe. It is one of the biggest ships ever built and to welcome the shop into NYC there has been a host of activities.

USA Today reported that Radio City Music Hall's Rockettes will be the godmothers for the ship that can fit up to 4,028 people. The party also includes an appearance by NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"This state-of-the-art ship will feature the best of what the current fleet has to offer such as the exclusive Haven, a relaxing pampering spa and a plethora of dining options," says Norwegian Cruise Lines website about the Breakaway. "Guests will enjoy all the flexibility that Freestyle Cruising has to offer while sailing to the picturesque island of Bermuda. From award winning cuisine, family fun and daily entertainment as well as a wonderful staff and crew the Norwegian Breakaway is sure to be a destination all on its own."

The ship will be based around New York year round making it the largest ship to be based in the city. To commemorate its base there are a number of NYC related attractions on board including Broadway shows such as Rock of Ages and restaurants by New York chefs such as Geoffrey Zakarian, reported USA Today.

"The first in a new class of ships for Norwegian, the Breakaway offers the perfect blend of Norwegian's fan-favorite Epic amenities and the luxe atmosphere of the Jewel-class ships," says Norwegian Cruise Line's website.. "With a contemporary design, entertainment such as the Rock of Ages show, a massive splash park, ropes course and even The Plank, a one-of-a-kind thrilling adventure extending 8 feet over the side of the ship " there's something for everyone onboard the Breakaway."

Breakaway will sail to destinations such as Bermuda and the Bahamas.
