For those who don't believe that network television is a vicious and cold-hearted business just look at NBC blocking Ann Curry from tweeting her sympathies to a very ill Robin Roberts of rival "Good Morning America."

"Ann Curry was gone but not gone, which created a situation of spectacular awkwardness. Any trust that had existed between Curry and 'Today' was shattered. When Robin Roberts left 'Good Morning America' a month later to get treatment for MDS, Curry asked NBC if she could tweet a note of sympathy for the ABC co-host. NBC said no, afraid she was trying to aid the enemy," said New York Magazine writer Joe Hagan.

It gets much worse for Curry--reports circulated earlier this month that her bosses weren't allowing her to appear live on air in any form or nature and that she was trying to get out of her contract at the network.

According to a report in the New York Post, Curry was banned from appearing live on NBC, and was only allowed to do pre-recorded interviews.

A source told the New York Post: "There's growing friction because she's been pushing for live interviews, but NBC will only air her taped interviews, presumably so they can edit them."

New York Post also states that sources tell them, NBC will only allow her to leave if she agrees not to appear on TV for six months following.

NBC and Curry's former "Today" co-host can not be happy with these stories or Hagan's in-depth investigative piece showing the inner details of the backstage in-fighting that led to Ann Curry's ouster from the "Today" show last year.

If Matt Lauer doesn't want to be seen with sharp knives, it's because last summer his co-host Ann Curry was discovered with one in her back," Joe Hagan wrote of the "Today" show's hosting drama, reporting that Lauer wanted Curry to leave and had threatened to move to ABC as a negotiating tactic.

For this and a multitude of others, Lauer has been fairly or not, blamed for Curry's departure, earning him strong viewer disfavor and resulting in "Today" is still trailing "Good Morning America" in the ratings. However, the NBC morning cast- Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales are still putting on a united front, reports New York Magazine.
