Visine Poisoning: Boyfriend Poisons Girlfriend with Visine

A man in California was arrested for poisoning his girlfriend with Visine. ABC News reported that Shayne Carpenter, 27, was arrested by the Nevada County Sheriffs Office on Thursday in Grass Valley, California. The mechanic was arrested for charges of poisoning and domestic violence.

Officials reported to ABC News that after a fight with his girlfriend, he put eye drops in her drink which caused her to feel sick.

"Police say after a fight with his girlfriend, Carpenter put eye drops in her drink causing her to feel ill.

Lt. Steve Tripp of the Nevada County Sheriff Department told ABC News affiliate KXTV News 10 that Carpenter's girlfriend became suspicious after finding texts on Carpenter's phone to his friends about the alleged prank gone wrong," reported ABC News.

Tripp said to ABC News that, "He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping."

After Carpenter's girlfriend started feeling ill and saw the texts, she contacted the police. The police had her call Carpenter on the phone about the poisoning and they got him to admit it over the phone.

"We got admissions from him over the phone, when he was admitting to her, that he had done this," Tripp said. To ABC News.

The girlfriend whose name was not release was treated in the hospital and released. Carpenter was released from jail after a $25,000 bail was posted.

The chemical in Visine is called Tetrahydrozoline. Fox 8 reported that the chemical can cause side effects including, "low body temperature, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting, difficulty breathing, seizures and possible coma."

Visine's website states that it contains .05 percent Tetrahydrozoline.
