The father of a 10-year-old Nebraska boy died after he fell in their home and was being cared for by his son. The father and son lived in Lincoln, Nebraska.

45-year-old Bienvenu Asumani died on Sunday reported ketv.com. An investigation on Friday reported that the boy had missed four days of school and an affidavid said that the boy said to police that his father fell on a floor that was wet more than a week before they were discovered. The man reportedly hit his head and was unresponsive. The boy gave his father food and fluids and was taken to the hospital. His son was taken into state custody.

"The investigator went to the family's home Friday after the boy's principal called police to report that he hadn't been in school for four days, Lincoln police spokeswoman Katie Flood said," reported the AP.

Asumani was taken to Bryan Medical Center West Hospital.  Peter, the son said that he couldn't communicate with his father during the situation and they lived in the hose alone.

When investigator Cynthia Koenig-Warnke went to to the family's home in Lincoln, Nebraska they found that Mr. Asumani was breathing and his eyes were open but he was not responding to questions, the AP reported.

The AP reported that it wasn't clear whether or not the boy knew about 911 or if he tried to contact a neighbor or someone else for help.

"Russ Reno, a spokesman, for the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department would confirm only that the boy was in foster care on Monday. Reno wouldn't comment directly on the case but said it was routine in such cases for the department to immediately begin searching for a child's relatives," reported the AP.

The AP reported that the boy said he had relatives in Arizona and that his mother was in Africa.
