A family of four was killed in a plane crash in New Mexico on Sunday. The New York Daily News reported that the family who was from San Antonio, Texas include two children. The single engine plane that they were riding in crashed in northern New Mexico and is currently under investigation.

Angel Fire Airport officials said to The New York Daily News that the area had gusts of wind that were up to 55 mph at the time that the small plane crashed. Michael Turri, who lives in the area said to KOB television that a local pilot said to hijm that the winds would have made it difficult to fly the small plane. "He was really surprised actually to have heard or seen a plane up in the air," Turri said to the station. "From what he could determine, a heavy west gust wind caught the plane, caused its right wing to dip and then cork-screwed down to the ground."

The Associated Press reported that the plane crashed as it was taking off and a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, Lynn Lunsford said that the cause was unknown.

"Angel Fire is located 150 miles northeast of Albuquerque. The plane was owned by a company in Scottsville, Texas," reported The AP. The area is a popular destination for skiing and snow sports in the winter. "There are fun things to do in Angel Fire during the winter. Snonwshoeing on the miles of trails available in town, at the Angel Fire Resort Nordic Center and in the Carson National Forest. Go for a snowmobile ride in the Carson or just sit near the fire and relax. And remember, you can always prove your artistic talent by creating a snow angel," says the city's website www.angelfirenm.gov.

"At 8,500 feet, our winters are action-packed and snow-filled and our summers refreshingly cool," the mayor, Barbara Cottam added on the city's website.
