Clever Tips on Getting the Best Deals When Buying an RV

(Photo: Clever Tips on Getting the Best Deals When Buying an RV)

Travel trailers are expensive, and they are usually priced higher than regular vehicles. Not only that, but their prices tend to increase during the summer, where many people are looking to have vacations. This is true, at least for the countries with the winter season.  If you don't have money but have wanted to buy one for a long time now, there are some ways to buy one without straining your vacation budget.

If you're ready to buy your RV, budgeting is your only way to do so. But before that, you might want to consider that you can rent RVs rather than buying them. Another alternative is for you to try and negotiate the price of your RV. The time and effort you put into planning are essential if you want to get your RV rental or purchase the best deal. That said, here are some tips that I recommend you to  do to get the best possible deal for an RV.

Shop Around

If you have already purchased multiple RVs before from the same dealer, that doesn't mean that you're getting the best deal possible. Loyalty will only go so far in terms of deals, which means that you have to be open to buying from another dealer and keep eyeballing for more opportunities to save. Little did you know that the competitor down the street actually has a better deal than your current one, and you're just ignoring them because you want to be loyal.

Don't get me wrong though, your loyalty to a dealership can get you good deals, but not all the time. Before you buy your first or next RV, shop around downtown or online and see if there are any good deals you can find. With all these choices, you can then choose the best among them and base your budget around it. Promotions and discounts are a big plus too.

Don't Always Settle for Brand New

A lot of consumers believe that buying brand new things can lead to fewer maintenance costs, which means they can save a lot of money in the long term. While this is a good argument, it's not always the best choice.

If you're limited by a budget, buying a new RV isn't always the wisest decision. In fact, when you opt for a secondhand one, you will have more control over your budget, and not to mention that some of the secondhand RVs come with retrofitted features from the previous owner, making it a huge plus. Not only that, by spending less on the purchase, you'll have more money for future customizations that you might have wanted for a long time.

Visit an RV Show

If you happen to know that your local RV dealer is holding an RV show, it's a great opportunity to get some of the best deals that the RV dealership is offering. Not only that, but it's also a good time to shop for prices since the dealer is hosting different manufacturers and RV models for everyone to see.

Also, at this time, dealerships are more than willing to offer you lower prices because the unsold units are most likely going back to their lot instead of going back to the manufacturing place. This means that most dealerships would much rather them be sold than having the hassle of taking them back.

When you're in an RV show, check out every unit you can lay your eyes on, especially those that interest you. If you spot one to your liking, talk to the salesperson about the RV. In this scenario, you can then negotiate for the price that you want. During this time, salespeople are more than willing to negotiate because they are supposed to sell many of them during the show. That said, you can use this information to your advantage.

Compare Prices

What do I mean when I say compare prices? I don't just mean to shop around and compare the prices. What I mean is that when you talk to a salesperson, compare the price of another RV from a competitor and watch him fumble and try to give you a more enticing offer. This is especially true if you see the same model from a different dealer.

For example, let's say that the salesperson offered you a certain price for an RV you're interested in. You can then tell them that the same model is offered from another dealer and is priced lower. In the majority of cases, they will want your business and will therefore offer you a more enticing deal to get you to buy from them. In short, play hard to get during this time. Just don't be rude.

Don't Stick to a Brand

A lot of people are loyal to brands. This is true to all products, whether it's phone or toilet brands. And of course, it's also the same for RVs. However, sticking to a brand is not always the best option. After all, RVs are made for the same purpose. Not only that, but RVs from famous brands tend to be more expensive.  You are paying more just for the name.  This is where you should ask yourself, is it worth paying x amount just for a brand name?

Secure a Financing Beforehand

Securing financing for an RV, such as RV financing with MyFy USA before you go to a dealership will give you more room to negotiate for the price. Secured financing is good leverage, which means that the dealers are way more open to discussion. Once they realize that you're not just a tire-kicker, they tend to bring out the best deals appropriate for your needs. Of course, most dealerships have financing for their customers as well, but it's highly recommended to get one of your own volition.

Takeaway

RVs are expensive, so it's only natural for us to find every opportunity to save some money when it comes to an RV purchase. However, out of all the ways you can get the best deals mentioned earlier, securing your own financing is the most important one. With secure financing, there is more room to negotiate, more room to shop around, and most importantly, more chances of getting the best deals.
