J.K. Rowling beat out Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton as the most inspiring British woman -- at least among Manchester voters, Inquisitr.com reported.
The author of the wildly popular Harry Potter series tied Olympic champion Jessica Ennis with 56 percent of Manchester respondents finding them inspirational, while the Queen earned the vote of two-fifths in the poll. Dame Helen Mirren was third on the list.

Among all British women, though, the Queen and Ennis shared the top slot, with 42 percent of respondents seeing them as the most inspirational, according to Looktothestars.org.

On the U.K. - wide list, J.K. Rowling, who received 39 percent of the vote, shared the third place slot with Dame Helen Mirren and Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley. Kate Middleton finished seventh on that list, according to Inquisitr.com, with 25 percent of the vote.

"Following on from the Woman's Hour Power List, it is clear that British women strongly value personal dedication and achievement, whether they are looking up to high profile figures or family members.

J.K. Rowling's high ranking among Manchester survey speaks volumes about what Manchester women are looking for in role models, Harriett Roberts, Oxfam community fundraising manager for Oxfam in Manchester, told Mancunian Matters.

"This is what Oxfam Get Together is all about," she said. "It is about celebrating and supporting women around the world who are working hard with passion and dedication to get themselves out of poverty."

Mancunians (the word for Manchester residents) look for heroes closer to home, with more than a quarter naming female friends and family as their greatest source of inspiration, with successful sportswomen not far behind, Mancunian Matters reported.

Queen Elizabeth's top slot in the national survey marks the second time she was listed among a list of influential women in a week -- she also made BBC Woman's Hour Power List, Mancunian Matters reported.

Ennis did not even place on the Hour Power List, but then again, neither did Princess Kate Middleton, according to Mancunian Matters.

Oxfam's Get Together fundraising campaign allows women to raise money for women living in poverty worldwide while celebrating International Women's Day with friends and family, LooktotheStars.com reported.
