Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport was ranked the nation's best for services and amenities, and among the top airports for business travel and connecting flights, according to a Travel Leaders Group Poll released on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

"Major airports have transformed considerably in the last decade to accommodate the shift in the amount of time travellers spend there," Barry Liben, the CEO of Travel Leaders Group, said in a statement. "More amenities have been added to appeal to travellers, and in many cases, to occupy their time, while they wait for their flights."

The poll, conducted in November and December, surveyed 930 travel experts about the best U.S. airports for business travel, connecting flights, amenities and activities for children.

The survey asked Travel Leaders Group owners, managers and agents: "If your clients are flying and need to connect through a hub airport, which hub do they prefer?"

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport made the top ranking, with 40.5 percent, The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported. The Atlanta airport was also touted as the best for dining - and third-best for kid-friendly activities, the survey found.

But the survey didn't reveal all good news for Atlanta, the Chronicle added. When asked, "If your clients are flying and need to connect through a hub airport, which hub do they try to avoid?", 33 percent of respondents selected Hartsfield-Jackson.

Other airports also received their share of accolades. Because the Orlando Airport is so close to Walt Disney World and other family theme parks and attractions, it's not surprising that it was ranked No. 1 for children's activities, followed by Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago O'Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth airports scored high for restaurants and services provided for business travellers.

But Chicago O'Hare was ranked the worst for connecting flights, with the three metro New York airports - JFK, LaGuardia and Newark - not far behind.
