Netflix confirmed that "Longmire" is renewed for one more season, and previous reports say that filming for Season 6 will start on March 22. The finale is going to bring closure to the cast. The plot of the upcoming Season has not been released yet, but what we do know is that the second episode is going to have a great director.

According to Cartermatt, Lou Diamond Phillips will direct "Longmire" Season 6 episode 2. Phillips stars as Henry Standing Bear in the series - Longmire's Native American friend, who helps him with the cases. Season 6 will have ten episodes and filming takes place in the Santa Fe area.

Phillips confirmed the directorial job via a post on Twitter. He said: "I have the honor of directing the second episode." He also added that he is "cooking" his vegetarian DP dinner while they research. This will be the first time that he will direct an episode for "Longmire."

When Season 5 ended, we saw Phillip's character fighting for his life because of Malachi Strand. It's not a guarantee whether Phillip's character will be alive during the next Season. "Longmire" Season 6 is rumored to premiere in September, just like before.

No specific reasons have been cited for the cancellation, but it's speculated that it is because of the show's ratings. When "Bloodline" was canceled, the specific reason was cited, but it's different for "Longmire," since there's no word about it yet. However, the show only peaked at 4.34 million during Season 1, and it could be that the ratings declined further.

Variety reported that the "Longmire" started in A&E, but it was canceled after Season 3. It found a new home in Netflix. Executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny said that they are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity. "Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that reward their longtime loyalty," they added.
