The fate of Zooey Deschanel's sitcom "New Girl" is hazy, and the show has not been renewed for Season 7 yet. A recent interview revealed that even one of the sitcom's star think that the show will be done after Season 6.

During an interview with The Daily Beast, Jake Johnson said that Fox has not told them about the show's fate yet, but he also said that it's likely that there won't be a Season 7. Johnson said that they shot a finale where if it was the end, "the core fan base would be OK." He said he does not have any idea if "New Girl" is coming back adding that they were told it's 50/50.

The finale that he mentioned will be aired on April 4, and it will provide closure. Johnson also added that about what's going to happen after "New Girl" Season 6 saying: "I think after this season it's done," Yahoo TV reported.

When it came out, "New Girl" was one of the honorees in the "most exciting new series" category at the 1st Critics' Choice Television Awards. The show has also been nominated several times including five Golden Globe Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards.

The sitcom, which also stars Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone and Lamorne Morris, has consistently slipped in ratings. "New Girl" Season 6 premiere had 2.3 million viewers, but the previous season averaged 3.7 million viewers.

Creator Liz Meriwether said that the reason could be that a lot of people are watching the show later or on Hulu. Meriwether added that the live ratings are indicative of who's watching the show, especially if it appeals to younger viewers.

But Meriwether also added that Fox "has been pretty savvy about that and incredibly supportive" of the show. The next episode of "New Girl" Season 6 is titled "Socalyalcon VI" and will be aired on March 14.
