It looks like Disney is exploring rebooting its sci-fi movie "Tron," as it is already in early stages of development. Jared Leto, who played Joker in "Suicide Squad" is the one being eyed to lead the said reboot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, no writer or filmmaker has been hired to work on the movie, but the co-producer of "Tron: Legacy," Justin Springer will be the one to produce this movie. If the project will move forward, it's expected that Leto and producing partner Emma Ludbrook will also be involved in some producing capacity.

This will Disney's third movie in the franchise, following the 1982 "Tron" movie and the 2010 "Tron: Legacy." The studio was actually planning for a sequel to "Tron: Legacy" but shutdowns and restarts have prevented it from moving forward.

The report said Disney shut it down for good in 2015. Sources are saying the latest movie is not a direct sequel, but some of the materials are being taken from the "source code of the deleted 'Tron 3' script."

This isn't the first time Leto's name is being put alongside a Tron movie, according to Nerd Reactor. Disney was already eyeing the actor to be part of the third movie in the franchise, which was supposed to have the title "Tron: Ascension."

The report said that Leto would have played the character Ares, who was said to have a major role in the third movie. But with the sequel not likely to be made, it's possible that Leto would be playing a different character unless they retain the character for the reboot.

Gizmodo said that doing a reboot makes more sense for Disney, given the problems they had in trying to create the sequel. They added that "Tron: Legacy" set up a lot of promise for a sequel, but if a reboot is needed to bring the franchise back to the big screen, they're all for it.
