The newest comedy series by Amazon has just debuted and it has received mixed reviews. Michael Dorman stars as John Tavner "Patriot" - a depressed undercover agent, sent on a complicated mission of fixing the mistake of his father.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the series is "quirky." This 10-episode series is created by screenwriter Steven Conrad, and the story is about how the CIA must embed operatives in American companies who have business in other countires so that they CIA can carry out its operations under the radar.

John has a tendency to lose himself in his work. He suffers from PTSD, nand he takes a mental health break in Europe, leaving his wife. But he is eventually yanked from this life for a task.

The plot is refreshingly original, although obviously there are already a lot of spy series around, but what makes the "Patriot" different from the others is that it is darkly comical, according to The Verge, John's character sets him aside because he is not just a spy. He is also a stoner and a folk singer.

John has been assigned by his father, Tom, (Terry O'Quinn) to McMillan, a Milwaukee piping company. John prefers to be a folk musician, but his father hopes to use him to facilitate the passing of cash to the CIA's preferred candidate in the Iranian election.

The antihero plot is interesting, but according to some critics, Dorman, is just not charismatic enough to carry out the role. Also, the show is confusing, and there were a lot of moments where it got boring.

However, many note that the show is not bad, but it's not just fit for "premium" viewing. It is intriguing, and new characters keep complicating the story in a good way. "Patriot" is now available on Amazon prime, and the first episode can be streamed without subscription.
