It looks like Barry Allen seeing Savitar kill Iris in the future during the "The Flash" Season 3 midseason finale was not a coincidence. Co-showrunner Aaron Helbing said that was intentional as it was part of the villain's plan.

In an interview with TVLine, Helbing said that it was not a coincidence that Allen's trip to the future landed him in the moment where Savitar is stabbing Iris in the heart. The villain, being tied to the Philosopher's Stone, wanted Allen to see that.

"I would say that Savitar has a plan," Helbing said. Savitar used the power of the Stone to send The Flash to a timeline "he needed him to go."

Ashley Victoria Robinson of Screen Rant said that "The Flash" Season 3 Episode 9 showed Allen throwing the Philosopher Stone into the Speed Force. This was supposed to end Savitar and give Team Flash an "opportunity to fight the future."

But with Helbing's revelation, it seems that Allen may not have seen the last of Savitar. It's also likely that the Stone and the self-proclaimed "God of Speed" will be making another appearance sooner rather than later.

Robinson adds that with Allen seeing the timeline that Savitar wanted him to see, this could lead fans to question the focus of the team in trying to change the future. She said that if Iris dying is already a fixed point in time, then what the team does is already considered moot.

Helbing also doesn't want to reveal more details about that storyline in the interview. When asked what Iris could do to change her future, the co-showrunner said that he doesn't "want to give anything away on that front at this moment."

It looks like fans will just have to wait and see how this would turn out when the storyline resumes. Check out the preview for the next episode of "The Flash" Season 3, "Attack on Central City," in the video below.
