The new "Sword Art Online" movie is the king of the Japanese box office, coming out on top with about 425.76 million yen, or about $3.76 million. The hit movie is expected to come to the United States on March 9, 2017.

Crunchyroll had reported that the new movie, which is entitled "Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale," has sold more than 308 thousand tickets in its first two days of screening. The weekend of February 18 and 19 is also considered as the best opening weekend for Aniplex, the company that distributed the anime movie.

The report adds that the movie was ranked number one by the Japanese magazine PIA's premiere satisfaction survey. It garnered a rating of 92 points, with the second-ranked, the live adaptation of the romance manga "One Week Friends," getting 90.9 points.

The movie also earned an average of 2.82 million yen per theater. The anime movie is expected to earn more than 2.5 billion yen after the end of in domestic market run, and more in the international market, including the U.S.

ComicBook reports that the movie will premiere in the U.S. on March 9 for a one-night event. This means that fans of this hit anime movie will only be able to watch it on the said date.

A part of the synopsis for the anime film reads that a game called "Ordinal Scale," an MMORPG that uses Augmented Reality (AR), is being played by Asuna and the gang using a device called Augma. The game was developed specifically for that particular next-gen wearable device that uses AR to get players into the game.
