NBC is kicking the tires of the iconic reality show which had dominated the Nielsen ratings over the years. The producers of "American Idol" are now planning to bring it back on screen but it will no longer be on Fox.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fremantle Media was planning for the revival of the show on summer in NBC since the network already had a top-rated singing competition in fall and spring through "The Voice." Further, the series is somewhat expensive since they are planning to make ambitious nationwide auditions, live result shows, and multiple episodes airing per week. The show will also exhibit celebrity-filled judges panel as well.

Accordingly, the revival of the show will tend to be fresher while on the other hand cost-cutting in the case of the production. Further, NBC would likely want to reduce its commitment to "The Voice" since it has been showing soft ratings lately and it has been in its seventh year of showing its ratings fatigue.

Meanwhile, "American Idol" has been recalled to run on Fox for fifteen seasons since 2002. For those years, it has been the highest-rated show on television. It was in 2006 when it has reached the ratings at its peak. It had an average of 12.4 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 36.4 million total viewers according to the Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers, Variety reported.

Further, its revival on NBC is still subject to speculation since it has aired its final season on Fox. As per Television Critics Association winter press tour in 2016, Ryan Seacrest, the long-time host of the show, discussed the show's future and he even promoted what Fox has dubbed as the "farewell season."

"American Idol" revival will surely make another competition. NBC would be beating on big ratings again. From the schedule viewpoint, NBC will surely find place for this series to be aired without changing its current unscripted slate.
