There have been rumors in the past month about the fate of the show. Many say that "Steven Universe" may end after Season 5, because the renewal for a fifth season has not been announced yet. Showrunner Rebecca Sugar commented about this issue and said that she has big plans for Season 5.

Talking about Rebecca Sugar - she came out as bisexual last year, and many fans appreciate how the embraces queerness. There was even a scene earlier this season ("Last One Out of Beach City") where Pearl meets a butch rocker with long pink hair and a lip ring. The two hit it off, and the girl gives Pearl her phone number, and just like that, the pink-haired girl was revealed as the show's first queer human character, Vulture said.

The main character, Steven, is based on Sugar's younger brother. "Steven Universe" has a very strong female presence, and Sugar said she intended to do this to "tear down and play with the semiotics of gender in cartoons for children." She finds it absurd that shows for boys should be different that those for girls.
