Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor appear to be moving one step closer towards a highly anticipated dream match. Rumors of this potential mega bout have been going around since last year, but the way things are building up, fans might finally be able to see the fight take place.

If the contest were to push through, then it would still need to be sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic State Commission since the bout would most likely take place in Las Vegas, according to a report from The Telegraph. The 39-year old Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record for his career. In that same year, Mayweather fought and defeated Manny Pacquiao in what has been dubbed as the richest fight in the history of professional boxing, which grossed more than $700 million.

Talks of a boxing match between McGregor and Mayweather has persisted, and many have even labeled it a "billion dollar fight" in the making. McGregor, 28, recently obtained a boxing license from California, and the outspoken Irishman has been calling out Mayweather repeatedly. The pair is still keen about going through with the fight despite some concerns being voiced out about its legitimacy.

"I believe the fight could happen. He's a tough competitor and has proved throughout the years in the UFC that he can fight standing up", Mayweather said. "So we'll just have to see what the future holds. Hopefully,we can make it happen."

In an interview with MMAfighting.com, McGregor spoke at length about the fight saying it is "being more than explored." The reigning UFC lightweight champion described it as a fight the people and himself want. He also explained how confident he was if he were to step into the ring against Mayweather.

"I've got the reach. I've got youth. I've got the confidence. I've got the unpredictable style. You can't prepare for a style like me." The hype train is running on all engines and fans can only hope that this fight does indeed go through.
