The "Girl Meets World" cancellation news has been going on for quite some time. When the final verdict on the show was announced, fans of the "Boy Meets World" spin-off grieved.
It can be recalled that fans of the coming-of-age comedy show even made a petition to Disney to give the show another chance to air. Stars of the show even urged their social media followers to request with them on behalf of the show.
Forbes wrote that the show did not retain the number of viewers that it has gathered at the start. It started off with a huge 5.16 million viewership in its early seasons. The third season's data plummeted to 1.5 million. And the Rowan Blanchard show was canceled after 69 episodes.
Another possible reason why the show suffered is the usual comparing of the spin-off with its original show, "Boy Meets World." Undeniably, it is funnier than the female version.
Despite the moral lessons and practical tips that the young generation can derive from the show, the Riley Matthews, and Maya Hart tandem did not end up as financially successful as its predecessor. The show runners announced the decision of the network to pull down the show via its official Twitter account.
The post said, "It is with incredible pride in our work and complete sadness that things end that I report to this wonderful audience that our show is over." With that, heartbreaking messages contained in several tweets are filled with gratefulness for the fans.
"I just officially got the call and would like to thank this audience for its incredible love and loyalty. Please watch our January episodes. We leave you with three incredible souvenirs of a show we couldn't be more proud of. As I look back I can tell you with absolute certainty - we gave you our best," the posts further said.
According to Deadline, the episode on January 20 will be its last episode titled "Girl Meets Goodbye." In the episode, the Matthews family contemplates a life-changing decision. True enough, speculations that the final episode will be the last for the gang has come true. The episode on January 13 titled "Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen" will pave the way to a finale reunion.
The "Girl Meets World" cancellation is inevitable but Disney will not let the void left by the show to prolong. It has always something new and interesting to offer to its faithful patrons. Stay tuned for more Disney shows.
