Disney-Pixar released a second trailer for "Cars 3" and it features younger racers that Lightning McQueen will race up against. The first installment showed McQueen as a young hotshot, but this time, he must prove himself that he is still relevant.

The first trailer was a bit dark, but the second trailer teases a lighter theme and character dynamics.  For the third installment, McQueen (Owen Wilson) is a middle-aged athlete, and his career is starting to show its age.  Director Brian Fee, who was an artist and animator for Pixar, said that the race car is faced with the fact that he might not be able to do the one thing that he loved most.

It also doesn't help that McQueen will compete against new and faster generation of racers.  Entertainment Weekly said that this new generation of eager racers is led by villainous Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer).

Fee said that Jackson was born with a "silver spoon in his mouth," so everything comes easy for him.  They also designed him so that when he stands next to McQueen, McQueen would look old.  He is also light-years ahead of McQueen when it comes to technology.

It might sound impossible for McQueen to win a race again. There would be a few unexpected turns, but race technician and also a new character, Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), would help McQueen for his comeback, Yahoo Movies reported.  He would also get inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

"Cars 3" is set to be released on June 16.  Characters like Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt) and Ramone (Cheech Marin) will step back into their original roles.

Whether there will be a fourth "Cars" movie, fans can only speculate.  "Where the franchise goes from here, I have no idea what may be down the road, but I can tell you that for Lightning McQueen, as a character, I think by the end of the movie it's safe to say that this is only the beginning for him," Fee said.
