Creator of "The Walking Dead" comics Robert Kirkman calculates five more years into the show. Should the TV series continue with its pace, it would take five years to catch up with the comics.

Currently, the series is in its seventh season with a midseason cliff hanger. "It took us 6 seasons to get to 100. It won't take us 6 years to 200 and that will take us to season... TWELVE." as Robert Kirkman stated on an article from Den of Geek.

Reaching twelve seasons is not too farfetched for a popular series like "The Walking Dead". However, the series has more constraints like actors aging compared to the comics.

Just like all shows based on an unfinished source material, there is always the looming threat that the series would catch up. The comic's first issue was on October 2003, giving 13 years of work for it, and now the series is only 50 issues behind.

In an iDigital Times article, it is revealed that Kirkman plans to continue the comics as soon as fans are still interested with the characters. Kirkman also stated that the comics are far from finished and an ending is far from the picture. The series would not be able to see the ending of the comic book in a realistic span of time.

AMC cannot keep "The Walking Dead" on air for an indefinite amount of time. It would do the fans injustice if the series would end without a proper ending, or if the series would just get canceled.

Kirkman did think of an ending for his beloved comic series, but he still won't be revealing it any sooner. Should the series declare an end date, Kirkman is ready to create a unique ending for the show. This way, he can give a proper ending to the series, while still keeping his comics ongoing.
