The year 2016 is a big year for tennis superstar, Serena Williams. She won the women's singles title at Wimbledon in July, and recently, she announced that she is engaged to be married to Alexis Ohanian, Reddit co-founder.

According to Vogue, Williams, 35 made the announcement in Reddit through a poem. The couple has been very private about their love life, so the news of their engagement surprised many.  In her verified Reddit account, Williams wrote that she was taken to a place where they first met, which many believe to be in Rome. She also added : "Down on knee/He said 4 words/And I said yes."

Williams and Ohanian, 33, have been dating since late 2015, The Guardian reported. Ohanian shared Williams' Reddit post on his personal Facebook page saying, "and you made me the happiest man on the planet". The couple's photo which Williams posted a month ago has since been flooded with congratulatory messages from fans.

Williams has never spoken about her beau in the press. The couple is said to have met in Rome in May of 2015, and in November of the same year, they were spotted having a dinner in San Francisco.

Ohanian has become Williams' biggest fan ever since. He has documented her accomplishments both on and off court and has been posting pictures of Williams during her games.

Before the engagement, Williams has been involved in a string of high-profile relationships including football star Keyshawn Johnson, "Rush Hour" director, Brett Ratner, fellow tennis player Grigor Dimitrov.  Last year, she was rumored to have dated Drake, but then again, this was never confirmed.

The bride-to-be has been spotted at Auckland Airport, but refused to comment about the upcoming nuptials.  She only answered a few questions and very briefly said that it was her big sister Venus who encouraged her to visit New Zealand.
