Carrie Fisher, the actress popularly known in her female lead role from the "Star Wars" series as Princess Leia Organa, has passed after a heart attack at the age of 60.

According to E! News, the incident happened while her flight from London to Los Angeles was just 15 minutes away from landing. The family's representative, Simon Halls, made the official announcement that the "Star Wars" icon have died on Tuesday.

"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," Halls told E! "She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers."

Based on TMZ's report, CPR and every possible life-saving measure had been administered before the plane made its landing. Afterwards, Fisher was rushed to the nearest hospital in an attempt to save her life. She was sent to the ICU immediately.

The incident took place on Dec. 23 and the actress still made it after being sent to the ICU. Carrie's brother even confirmed that she was in a stable condition, just a few hours after being sent to the ICU. Unfortunately, the actress still passed away on Tuesday.

A number of celebrities, including the YouTube personality, Anne Akana, who was aboard the same plane, expressed their devastation with the news of the "Star Wars" icon's untimely demise. This also included Fisher's closest co-stars like Mark Hamill, who played the role of Luke Skywalker in the previous entries in the movie series.

Carrie Fisher was widely known as Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" series in 1978. This followed her debut in "Shampoo" back in 1975 where she was only 19 years old. Fisher also made her appearances in the two following installments "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of The Jedi."
