The mid-season finale of the series "How to Get Away with Murder" proves that the show is really very unpredictable.  Season 3 Episode 9 revealed that Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) was the man under the sheet.  Even more curiously, he has been dead even before the fire broke out.

Wes' death had fans questioning about the show's future, since he had always been a key character and he has lifted the plot on his shoulders since the first season. Series creator, Pete Nowalk explains the details behind their decision to kill off this major character and the possibility that the show will wrap up after Season 3.

The final scenes of the midseason finale shows that Nate (Billy Brown) discovered that Wes had already been killed even before the explosion. Even if it is unclear as to what caused Wes' death, fans already speculated on two suspects - Connor (Jack Falahee) and Frank (Charlie Weber).

During his interview with Variety, Nowalk said that viewers will be given answers when the show returns next year.  Norwalk said that he has no idea if ABC will renew the show for another season.

Norwalk said that Wes' death has a lot of possibilities, including suicide. Fans who will miss seeing Wes on the show need not worry because Norwalk said that Wes will still be seen and there will be a new mystery revolving around why he was killed, International Business Times said.

"The mystery really is who killed Wes, and within that, there's a lot of twists and turns," Norwalk said.  "We're going to see what happened to him right as we left him in the first episode back, so we're going to turn over the cards pretty quickly."

"How to Get Away with Murder" returns on January 19, 2017on ABC. It will also air in Australia on Channel Seven.
