Mobile phenomenon, "Pokémon  GO", released an update a little early for Christmas. One Pokémon will be more festive than the rest. Niantic announced that the massive update is a holiday-themed Pikachu, which turns into an equally festive holiday Raichu.

The update also allows you to add brand new Pokémons Togepi and Pichu, which can be hatched by doing a lot of walking. MacRumors say that new Pokémons can only be found in eggs, which can be obtained from PokéStops, and that catching them won't be an easy one.

Holiday Pikachu was made available on December 12, and according to Niantic, these will "appear in large quantities". The limited edition Holiday Pikachu will only be available until December 29.

Kei Kawai, director of product at Niantic, Inc., said: "We're looking forward to celebrating the season with our community by introducing a Pikachu wearing a festive hat, providing Trainers the opportunity to get out and explore their neighborhoods with friends and family as they gather for the holidays."

According to Inverse, the festive Pikachu can be turned immediately into the Holiday Raichu upon capture by using a Pikachu Candy.  Pokémon  GO" fans would know that evolving a Pikachu is no small feat, since they tend to be quiet rare. To evolve it into a Raichu, players need 50 Pikachu Candies.

The festive promotion will help players catch a regular Raichu, since they will be appearing a lot more frequently, in far more locations, but the Candy you get for catching them isn't any different to regular Pikachu.  For each Pikachu you catch, you will be given three Candies, and one more if you transfer any to the Professor.

The holiday update may just be a first to many.  J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International, said: "The opportunity to hatch select Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region is just the beginning of how more Pokémon will be added to the game for Trainers to continue their Pokémon GO adventures."
