"Super Mario Run" is scheduled to be released on December 15 as revealed by Nintendo. They also added that they didn't want the game to be a traditional free-to-play game.

Shigeru Miyamoto, series creator and "Super Mario Run" producer said that the game is free, but you have to pay $10 to unlock all the content. The legendary game maker told Glixel that they did not want something in the free to play space.

"In order for us to have the performance we wanted we needed some development support to ensure that the game would run the way we expected. Because Nintendo is always trying to do something unique we also wanted to try and do something different on the business side too." Miyamoto said.

"We really didn't want to do something in the free to play space, but in order to make sure we had the opportunity to do what we wanted [offer a taste of the game for free, and charge $9.99 to unlock the whole thing], we had to talk to the people who are actually running the shop," the game creator added.

Miyamoto explained that the game needs to be connected to the internet because it would be difficult to offer the World Tour single-player mode as an offline mode.  Nintendo also said that their software is an important asset, and making the game available offline increases piracy risks.

The game, according to Gamespot, has three modes - the first involves collecting coins, second lets player takes on the ghosts of other players to compete for high scores, and third allows the player to create his own Mushroom kingdom using coins and Toads gathered in other modes.

"Super Mario Run" is available for any iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch that is running on iOS 8 or newer. The launch to Android phones and tablets is yet to be announced.
