"The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do The Time Warp Again" surprisingly resulted to rocky ratings and reviews

Fox's latest musical, a non-live version of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" starring Laverne Cox, only garnered 4.95 million views Thursday with 1.7 demo rating.

"Thursday Night Football", "Grey's Anatomy", and "Chicago Med" outdid it in the same timeslot. The performance was a 59 percent decline from last year's Grease: Live! With 12.2 million total viewers.

E! Online adds that among all the musicals launched for TV, may it be live or not, "Rocky Horror" comes in last.

To compare, the 1975 film version of the "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" was never a hit or blockbuster. However, the movie adaptation, which starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick, gained a huge following throughout the years.

On the other hand, critics were also not satisfied with the Fox remake. Even The New York Times called it as 'stripped of subversive magic'.

"Although it's moderately entertaining at times, it never makes clear why it needed to be attempted," the Times critic said. "That's the burden of any remake, of course, and from that perspective the project may have been doomed from the start. Certain performances simply can't be topped."

Moreover, Advocate said that the review is not a good one for transgender actress Laverne Cox, whose role as the 'sweet transvestite' has created controversy among the LGBT community.

"If there were something revelatory to be gleaned by having Ms. Cox, a well-known transgender performer, rather than a man play the role, she and her director, Kenny Ortega, didn't find it. Only in the show's outlandishly maudlin finale does she really put her stamp on things," the review explains.

As for the viewers, a lot of them took to Twitter their sentiments about the show. Many complained regarding the more conservative wardrobe choices.

One Twitter user said: "#RockyHorror is supposed to be punk, dangerous and erotic. Through no fault of the performers this version is square and sexless."
