Upon the release of the teaser trailer of the new "Power Rangers" movie, Max Landis, writer of "Chronicle," couldn't help but notice the similarities between the two movies.

Cinema Blends reports that Landis was once hired by Lionsgate to write a draft for the reboot; however, they decided to go for a different creative direction. The writer was shocked at this development, especially since it turned out to be so similar to his work.

He then posted this tweet:

The similarities are quite plenty. First, both film's premises involve a group of outcasts who stumble upon an alien structure, which then made them gain superhuman powers. After getting new abilities, they become targets of danger and trouble.

A lot of fans on social media also observed these similarities. This has also raised concern amongst the fan base that it might have gone too far away from the original premise of the cult classic.

With this said, the new movie is said to be catered for a totally different audience. During their panel at New York Comic Con, director Dean Israelite said that he wanted to preserve the spirit of the original series while introducing a completely different origin story.

In a report by Polygon, Israelite says that the Zords will be one of the biggest parts of the movie. Although it will be completely computer-generated on screen, the director still made the cast act out all the physical aspects of the Zords - just to give it an even more authentic feel.

Black Ranger Ludi Lin said that "operating" the Zords were definitely one of the most exhausting parts during filming. Some of them even got injured while doing it. Israelite also mentions that the scene where the Black Ranger is operating his Zord will be one of the "most emotional moments in the entire film."

The film is set to premiere on March 17.
