"Bridget Jones' Baby" has been enjoying a highly bankable run in the UK Box Office, so much so that it has surpassed the 1999 hit "Notting Hill." The sequel to "Bridget Jones's Diary" is now the fourth biggest romantic comedy in the UK with a neat £31.35m.

The sequel was also on the brink of staying stuck in development limbo since one of the lead actors didn't want to sign on due to a 'weak storyline'. However, much has changed since then, and they have produced an impressive hit.

Now why is the sequel such a huge hit despite running already for almost a month? The Guardian reports that despite it being a sequel, the story itself piqued the interest of the viewers since it's not your ordinary romantic comedy plot line. The movie's success will also force development executives to find more stories so that they could discover new storylines that present that same potential for commercial success.

Also, the movie taps into a more female-friendly market, which isn't usually done especially by producers in Hollywood. Not to mention, Bridget Jones has always been a well-loved character, especially by women from all over the world.

The report also notes that September is usually a quiet month for UK cinemas, however, "Bridget Jones' Baby" has surged admissions. Insiders are saying that the past month might have been the biggest and strongest September they ever had.

When it comes to the US box office, however, the movie wasn't able to drive as much success with only $21 million so far.

British film company, Working Title, which is behind the movie, has also marked itself as the first to make one billion dollars in the UK box office. In another report by The Guardian, the company has already produced over a hundred titles for the past 33 years. Some of their other hits are "The Danish Girl", "We Are Your Friends", and "Anna Karenina".

While there are no news about having another installment to the Bridget Jones's trilogy, some of Working Title's pending releases are the live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" and "The Snowman".
