Adelaide was flocked with thousands of tourists last Tuesday falling in line with the eagerness to see the 'corpse flower' bloom. It only takes 48 hours for the bloom to lasts. It then collapses in on itself after.

The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden in the Adelaide Hills was filled with thousands of individuals of all ages as they played host to the endangered corpse flower, which was named after its disgusting odour. According to visitors, 'it smells of decomposing flesh' or a 'pile of dead fish.' One of the kids who were in the area said that its odour 'is too disgusting to describe'.

The corpse flower grows up to three metres tall and features a giant phallic spike. It was planted in the garden roughly a decade ago. Last Tuesday marks its first time to bloom. Horticultural curator Matt Coulter said, 'flowering events are rare especially because the plant is so difficult to cultivate, even in optimum conditions. The titan arum (corpse flower) really is one of the world's most fascinating plants, and we're ecstatic the South Australian public have the opportunity to see it.'

In the past few weeks leading up to the flower emerging, the plant was growing at rate of about 20cm a day.

According to 9news, only about 80 specimens have flowered around the world in the past 30 years and can grow to three metres in height.
