Last month, the government in Cancun legalized same-sex marriage. Now, The JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa is offering a special wedding package for same-sex couples who want to tie the knot, Marketwatch reports.

Gay and lesbian couples who get married on or before December 21, 2012 can take advantage of the Cancun for 2 Package, which includes an upgraded room along with a $50 daily resort credit and round-trip airport transportation. They'll aslo receive complementary Internet access and a bottle of wine during a dinner at one of the resort's four restaurants, like Sedona Grill, which specializes in Caribbean seafood, or Gustino Italian Grill. A 25% discount on spa treatments is another perk. The package starts at $269 per night.

The hotel's response seems to be part of a growing trend. By mid-2011, about 53% of American adults reported being in favor of same-sex marriage. Moreover, the Huffington Post reported last year that approximately 150,000 same-sex couples -- about 20% of gay and lesbian couples in the country -- have either married or registered civil unions or domestic partnerships. Therefore, there should be no shortage of romantics who might wish to take advantage of the promotion.

The JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa is situated in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone and was awarded the AAA Five Diamond Hotel Award. Since there are wedding planners on staff and over 2,000 square feet of event space, the hotel is equipt to handle a wedding, same-sex or otherwise. After a couple gets officially wed, they can enjoy some honeymoon time on the beach.
