There is no doubt that the capital city of Spain: Madrid is one of the most incredible cities in the world. The gorgeous architecture, delicious tapas, Tinto de Veranos, and friendly people make all travelers fall in love as soon as they arrive. In addition to this, Madrid truly happens to be a city that never sleeps, and one of the party capitals of the world. The city's nightclubs, bars, and streets are constantly buzzing with activity no matter what day of the week and what hour.

As an American intern in Madrid this past summer, I was amazed to see just how hard and long Madrilênos partied. In the United States, a typical night out starts at 10pm and will almost always end at 2am with most bars and clubs ending their alcohol service at 1am. This is absolutely not the way it works in Madrid. Nightclubs are empty before 1am and the party rages on until 5 or even 6am at times. This past summer, my friends and I explored many bars and nightclubs and while each was a great time, I certainly have my favorites.

When it comes to bars, my friends and I loved the Irish pub, Dubliners. Located just off Sol, the heart of Madrid, this bar had such a lively atmosphere on all days of the week, though it was specifically rowdy on the days that the giant screens inside showed Real Madrid soccer matches. The affordable drinks, free chips and attractive bartenders makes Dubliners a frequent haunt for those looking for a relaxed but fun time.

Another much loved bar is +KCopas, where every student living in the city of Madrid visits for its inexpensive drinks and food. There are numerous +KCopas locations all over Madrid and most are conveniently located right next to every major nightclub in the city. From its banana jaeger shots, delicious piña coladas and cosmopolitans, all for just 4 or 5 euros, +KCopas is one of the major staple nightlife destinations in Madrid.

Saving the best for last, my favorite nightlife locales in Madrid without a doubt are the numerous rooftop bars that are filled to the brim with revelers during the summertime. Circulo de Bellas Artes, located in the heart of Madrid, boasts spectacular city views, specifically of the Metropolis building and the bustling street of Gran Via, an extremely chic, cosmopolitan vibe all for just a 3 euro entry fee.

The young and sophisticated will be out in full force on Sundays at sunset. This rooftop terraza is one of the best in Europe, and not to be missed. Two other rooftop bars, which are equally as incredible, are The Oscar Hotel Rooftop Bar and Terraza Cibeles. The Oscar Hotel rooftop bar has a swimming pool and beautiful urban views while the ultra chic Terraza Cibeles is located on top of the Town Hall of Madrid and has a spectacular view of the famous Cibeles fountain and the busy streets below.

These are just three of my favorite rooftop bars in Madrid, a city that is filled with them. Each has a unique view and atmosphere and during the summer time, travelers and Madrilênos themselves are out lounging, watching the sunset and spending time with friends and family at them.

I could go on and on and probably write a book just about Madrid's best bars but here is a sampling of just of a few of my favorites. Madrid is truly a city that never sleeps and each traveler must visit the city and explore to find their favorite nightlife spots.
