Man fakes death to avoid wedding story seems like something out a movie, but unfortunately for the bride it is very real. This story of a man fakes death to avoid wedding takes the term "getting cold feet" to just about a whole new level.

According to the Daily Mail, the fiancé faked his own death by calling his girlfriend of two years and pretending to be his father to breaking the news - all in order to get out of his wedding.

The man fakes death to avoid wedding story involves a 23-year-old Tucker Blandford. He had gotten engaged last year to his girlfriend of two years named Alex Lanchester, also 23.

According to People, the couple met as students at the University of Connecticut in August 2012. Lanchester was studying abroad in the US at the time. She took a job at the campus cinema, where she bumped into Blandford, who was a set painter, on her first day of work.

The pair quickly fell in love, but the rest was not history as unbeknownst to Lanchester, she would be involved in the man fakes death to avoid wedding story in the news.

Lanchester said, "Tucker was such a gentleman and was always buying me dinner and beautiful vintage jewellery. I'd never been in love like that before. Every Sunday he would take me out for pancakes, it was so sweet."

She added, "And to celebrate the day we got together, on the 10th of each month we would go out for a posh dinner. The worst thing was the idea that one day I would have to leave him and go back to England. The thought of that was breaking my heart."

The two spend a year together, and while Lanchester was preparing for her return to Britain, Blandford proposed. Soon after, they started wedding plans in Connecticut, reports ClickOnDetroit.

The couple appeared to be blissfully planning their future together, speaking daily and planning for the wedding. Lanchester was so excited of her dream wedding that the wedding date was sealed immediately - Aug. 15, 2014.

Not expecting that their story would turn out to be man fakes death to avoid wedding, Lanchester poured all her money, thousands of pounds at that, into their wedding.

According to the Daily Mail, she bought a handmade dress from eBay, payed for her invitations, Blandford's plane ticket to England for the ceremony, even his flights so they could see each other.

Lanchester said, "I went all out even though I had hardly any money. In the weeks running up to his visit I was mad with excitement."

Apparently, all the while Blandford was secretly overwhelmed by the nuptials and already planning how to pull off the story of man fakes death to avoid wedding.

He almost pulled it off actually. Blandford pretended to be his own father, calling Lanchester and telling her boyfriend had jumped in front of a car and would be unable to marry her, because he was dead.

Lanchester said, "picked up my phone and there was a man saying he was Tucker's dad. He told me Tucker had been deeply depressed and wanted to die, so had thrown himself in front of a car."

She added, "The man explained that they had been trying to send Tucker off to a psychiatric unit for help. But it was too late. I couldn't breathe. It was absolutely devastating."

Unfortunately, there was a loophole into Blandford's man fakes death to avoid wedding plot. He apaprently forgot to tell his parents of his plans, and when Lanchester called the family back a short time later to offer her condolences, Blandford's mom said he was alive and well, in Connecticut.

Blandford's mom even said she thought they had split up and Blandford also never even booked the venue for their nuptials. In addition, Blandford never mentioned his engagement to his parents.

Blandford apparently told them they had broken up when she left America. Of course when Lanchester learned the truth, she broke up with him.

She told The Mirror, "He has shattered my trust and I'm not sure I'll ever be in a relationship again. All I ever did was love him, I'm so sick of being messed around and I'm glad to be rid of him."

She added, "After this I'm not sure I can trust a man ever again."

As for her plans on Aug. 15, her supposed to be wedding date, Lanchester spent it on vacation in the States.

She told the paper of moving on from the whole man fakes death to avoid wedding fiasco, "I'm going to be making my own memories, without him. He's a liar and a coward. He had put on a different voice on the phone and pretended to be his grieving father. What sort of sick person does that to his fiancé of two years? It's sickening."

Meanwhile, as for the man actually responsible for the man fakes death to avoid wedding story, Blandford admitted his deception saying he was "scared".

According to the Daily Mail, he told a reporter in a phone call. "I'm a terrible, awful person. I know I shouldn't have told her I was dead, but I didn't know what else to do."

He added, "Alex is an amazing girl but I got scared and wanted to get out of the relationship. It was moving extremely fast and with us being in different countries, it was really hard."

He also said, "At the time I just felt like I couldn't tell the truth and thought if I could just postpone everything it would be better."

Man fakes death to avoid wedding story might appear ridiculous, but there is a lesson to be learned in all this - when it comes to love, things should never be rushed. As of the current moment, Lanchester has moved on from the deception and is enjoying her life.
