Soulja Boy is dead. At least that's what Twitter saying. However the "Crank That" rapper didn't die. He's just the latest victim of an Internet death hoax. Soulja Boy is fine.

Rumors started spreading on Twitter that Soulja Boy Tell 'Em died. It is not clear how the rumor started but the hashtag #RIPSoujaBoy quickly became a trend on Twitter as it was repeated several times but many Twitter accounts. Soulja Boy isn't dead. He tweeted while the hoax was going on, without addressing it and some think the tweets and RIPSouljaBoy trend were all part of a genius marketing plan by the rapper himself. "Soulja boy a marketing genius. he got everybody tweeting that he died and then he over there tweeting out his music video links," one Twitter user wrote.

While his name trended, Soulja Boy took to Twitter to update his fans with new music videos, blog posts, Instagram photos, Vine videos and more. Soulja Boy isn't dead but the trend could have been a way to revitlize his dying career as some pointed out. "Ladies and gentleman, then only thing dead about Soulja boy is his career. Not the person himself. #RIPsouljaboy," one Twitter user wrote. Soulja Boy shot to fame with his one hit wonder "Crank That." The catchy song had an even more popular dance that led it to being a hit. However Soulja Boy's claim to fame seemed to drop as the popularity of the 2007 hit died.  Soulja Boy has put out some mix tapes over the past year and said that he is working on his fourth album, which may be why a fame boost is in order.

Soulja Boy isn't dead, but some of those who saw the Twitter hashtag may not have known that it was false. Some took to the social media site to mourn the loss of the rapper. Some examples of those tweets include:

"SOULJA BOY DIED WTF"

"soulja boy died omg #Ripsouljaboy"
