Paul Gascoigne is dead. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the former England international footballer didn't die. He's just the victim of an Internet death hoax. Paul Gascoigne is fine.

Rumors started swirling this week that Gascoigne died. There are no specifics to how the famous soccer player died but a tweet by Sky News was going around saying "BREAKING: Footballer Paul Gascoigne has died at the age of 47. More shortly.." The original tweet was sent out by SkyNews0. However when users try to go to the profile, it says the account has been suspended.

The account was likely reported for spreading false rumors. Gascoigne isn't dead. There are no legitimate news sources that have reported about his death because it hasn't happened. This isn't even the first time the Internet has tried to kill off Gascoigne.  In October 2013, another rumor was going around social media saying that Gascoigne was found dead in his home. The hoax got so out of hand, that friends and family members found out and contacted Gascoigne to see if he was okay. The footballer responded to the rumors himself, saying "Had loads of texts and calls yesterday from friends and family calling and texting me worried that I'm dead. I laughed because if someone is dead I would not text the person because he is dead. But I appreciate the care so I went to the chemist and got some Benylin to get rid of the coffin ha ... Love GAZZA X."

Gascoigne isn't dead but he has dealt with a bad alcoholism problem for much of his late life and has had several stints in rehab. The problem has even led to him being hospitalized. His most recent rehab visit was in January 2014.

Despite the rumor of his death being nothing more than a rumor, some fans took to Twitter to question and mourn the death of Gascoigne. Some examples of those tweets include:
"rip Paul gascoigne one of a hand full of real genius in his era"
"BREAKING: Footballer Paul Gascoigne has died at the age of 47. More shortly.." Predictable .... but really sad RIP"
