EasyJet Ignored Man's Request for a Refund For His Dead Wife

EasyJet refused to refund a man whose wife died from cancer after he spent $2,200 on flights for their trip which never happened.

Thomas Douglas-Woods, 85, had booked two trips to Malta with his wife, Margaret many months before she died, according to the Daily Star. The Wirral, UK couple were supposed to travel in June and September of 2013.

However, Margaret was told by doctors that she was too sick to travel after the trips were booked. She later died from pancreatic cancer.

Douglas-Woods wrote to the airline to ask for a refund but he says easyJet ignored his request for months.

"I think it's absolutely disgusting," Douglas-Woods said according to the Daily Star. "This is a genuine case, it's not someone who's broken down on the way to the airport. When somebody says: 'My wife is dying, I can't go,' they should take notice."

When the situation was made public by the Daily Star, easyJet decided to finally refund the man. The airline released a statement saying,  "EasyJet is a no-refunds airline, however we fully understand that our customers' travel plans and circumstances may change due to a bereavement. We can confirm that the refund has now been processed in full."
