Toronto's New Ripley's Aquarium Opens to the Public
Ripley's Aquarium of Canada has opened a facility in Canada on Oct. 16. The space is 135,000 square feet and has over 16,000 marine animals from around the world.
"Now open, the brand-new Ripley's Aquarium of Canada will be an extraordinary destination for millions of Torontonians and visitors to our great city. Ripley Entertainment Inc., a part of The Jim Pattison Group from Vancouver, British Columbia, brings us this world-class attraction to the heart of downtown Toronto, next to the CN Tower," reported Ripley's Aquarium of Canada's website.
The space features everything from a 100-year-old lobster with huge claws toa 396-pound grouper. Out of the 16,000 marine animals, there are more than 450 species in 1.5 gallons of water.
"In the Canadian Waters Gallery, view mega-lobsters, as well as largemouth bass and a giant Pacific octopus. A moving sidewalk takes you through the Dangerous Lagoon, a 315-foot clear tunnel, the largest in North America. Look up to see sandbar sharks zigzag above your head and come eye-ball to eye-ball with barracudas and sawfish," reported USA Today Travel.
The aquarium also hosts live shows at the Ray Bay and Rainbow Reef. The shows feature a diver inside the habitat and someone outside that educates the public about it.
"Explore the world of sharks and stingrays while watching stingrays feed out of our divers' hands," at Ray Bay. There's also a Rainbow Reef Drive and "during this feeding show you will discover the world of coral reefs and the many colourful fish that call it home."
USA Today reported, "In Planet Jellies, admire moon, spotted and upside-down jellies as they pulsate and float. In the Gallery learn about fragile ecosystems and delicate critters such as red lionfish, leafy sea dragons and seahorses as tiny as three inches. At the touch tanks and pools, pet bamboo sharks, Atlantic stingrays and horseshoe crabs."
Tickets are $29.15 for adults and $9.70 for children.
