Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquaio asked his Twitter followers to help him select his next opponent. The Filipino's last bout was against Jesse Vargas whom be beat via unanimous decision to win the WBO world welterweight championship last November.
"Who do you want me to fight next in the UAE?" the 38-year old boxer tweeted along with a poll that featured the names of Amir Khan and Kell Brook. Pacquaio announced his retirement from professional boxing in April 2016 after defeating Timothy Bradley, but later returned for another bout against Jesse Vargas later in the year.
Other fighters whose names were on the list include Terrence Crawford and Australian Jeff Horn - the latter of whom the Filipino boxer was reportedly in talks with for a potential bout between the two, according to a report from Yahoo Sports. A spokesperson for Pacquaio revealed that the boxer was due to have a meeting with his manager Michael Koncz on Monday and a statement regarding his next bout would be released later on.
Amir Khan emerged as the winner in the Twitter poll after garnering 48 percent of the fans' votes. Promoter Eddie Hearn had recently stated that any plans of having a potential bout between Khan and Kell Brook were already "dead in the water." Neither fighter was able to come to an agreement on financial terms for the long-awaited fight. They are now looking for other opponents to face.
In an interview with Sky Sports last November, Pacquaio said that he was open to the possibility of fighting against his "friend" Amir Khan. "I'm willing to fight anybody. Amir Khan is my friend and it's good to fight somebody that you know. That's better", Pacquaio said.
Khan,30, moved up to the middleweight class in May 2016, but was knocked out by Mexican Saul Alvarez. In 2015, Khan claimed that he was being lined up to face Pacquaio, but said that the Filipino boxer did not want to face him.
