‘Star Wars Episode IX’ Might Feature Carrie Fisher, Disney In Talks With Her Family For CGI Appearances

It looks like Disney is not yet ready to let go of Carrie Fisher's General Leia Organa in "Star Wars Episode IX" as they are in talks with her family for possible future CGI appearances. But even if negotiations push through, her role in the next two films are still uncertain.

According to Jordan Pate of Star Wars News Net, BBC Newsnight has aired a story about CG characters in movies and it includes Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin. The episode also talked about Disney in negotiation with Fisher's family regarding her appearances in the Star Wars Franchise.

Pate was able to get a quote from the episode and it says "Disney is negotiating with the actor's estate over her continued appearance in the franchise. If Disney gets the go-ahead, Carrie Fisher will join Peter Cushing..."

Pate said this information doesn't mean that Fisher will be one of the featured characters in the film. "Star Wars Episode IX" Director Colin Trevorrow, though, had already hinted that Leia would have a much bigger role in the last movie of the franchise.

Chris Agar of Screen Rant said that it's not a surprising move for Disney, given they have already plotted the storyline of the trilogy. But he adds it's not clear in what capacity will Disney be using Leia in the films.

Agar said they could go with how "Rogue One" used Tarkin and give Leia a bigger role. They could also go with brief cameos, such as a hologram appearance. He adds that it's important to just trust the creative team in handling this "unfortunate situation in the best way possible."

Check out the video about "Star Wars Episode VIII," which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2017. Episode VIII will also feature the reunion between the twins Luke Skywalker and Leia.
