HTC's latest flagship, which is unofficially named the "U 11," is scheduled to be announced in May and is said to sport high-end specs to allow the company's flagship to compete with other flagships. But can it compare against the latest flagship device from Samsung, the "Galaxy S8"?

According to a report from Android Authority, HTC had already confirmed that they will unveil their latest flagship on May 16, which is a little later compared to the "HTC 10" last year, which they revealed in April. The likely reason for the delay is the limited supply of the Snapdragon 35, which is rumored to be the latest flagship's processor.

Qualcomm had apparently given its first supplies to Samsung, but with supplies now being available, HTC is ready for the "U 11's" unveiling. Similar to last year, fans can probably pre-order the device after it's unveiled, but will likely wait a month before they can get their hands on it.

As for the "HTC U 11's" specs, the report said that it will come out with a 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution and 3000 mAh battery. But can HTC's latest flagship compare to the "Samsung Galaxy S8"? Pocket-lint compared the two devices and there are already differences when it comes to its design.

The "Galaxy S8" doesn't have any physical buttons at the front, as the home button is built into the curve display, while the fingerprint sensor can be found in the rear next to the lens of the camera. It also features an almost all-screen front with a little bezel that makes the device beautiful to look at.

The "HTC U 11," on the other hand, is rumored to have a squeezable frame called Edge Sense and will have a "capacitive button at the front." It is said the device will also have a shiny finish and will be IP57 water and dust resistant.

The "Galaxy S8" has a slight edge on the display as it is larger, with 5.8-inch compared to the "U 11's" 5.5-inch, and it features Super AMOLED technology to offer bright and vibrant colors. The "U 11," though, is rumored to come with a curved display, which is new for HTC.

For the hardware, both devices are likely identical to the "Galaxy S8" is powered by the Snapdragon 835 or the Exynos 8895 chip and comes with 4GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage space and up to 256GB of storage expansion. The "HTC U 11" is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 as well and come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

As for the camera, Samsung has 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization, while the front camera has 8-megapixel. The camera for HTC's flagship is not yet certain as some rumor suggest it will have a 12-megapixel rear camera with an 8-megapixel front camera, while others say its rear camera will be 16-megapixel and 12-megapixel in the front.

Everything is considered a rumor at this point for the "HTC U 11," save for the May 16 unveiling, so fans will likely know more about the device during that date. Check out the teaser video for the "HTC U 11."
