The Samsung "Galaxy S8" had just been released but that doesn't stop reports about its successor, dubbed as the "Galaxy S9," from coming out. It is said that Qualcomm and Samsung are already working on a new chipset that will be powering the new device.

According to a report from Aju Business Daily (via The Investor), the new chipset that both companies are working on a new processor that will be called the Snapdragon 845. It is said that either Taiwan's TSMC or Samsung will be the one to manufacture the chip once the development is completed.

The latest Qualcomm chip in the market is called the Snapdragon 835 and it is powering the "Galaxy S8." The report said that Samsung is producing the chip and the company is producing it in a facility that uses a 10-nanometer chip manufacturing technology.

The chip is said to have 27 percent faster-processing speed and is 30 percent more energy efficient compared to chips that are produced using the 14-nanometer technology. An industry source told The Investor the importance of having good mobile processors on the smartphone.

"The capabilities of a mobile processor can decide the overall performance of smartphones which now have a range of features such as video calls, video recording, VR, and AR," the source said. It adds that competition for getting advanced mobile processors will only "intensify" moving forward.

BGR reports that the "Galaxy S8" is currently the only smartphone that has the Snapdragon 835. Samsung is also using the Exynos 8895 chip for its latest flagship, currently giving the "Galaxy S8" the best mobile processor pair in the market.

Aside from the Snapdragon 845, no other details were provided about "Galaxy S9," like what will be its specs or new features. A new Exynos chip also wasn't mentioned, but there's a big possibility that Samsung might also use a new model of the chipset for its still-in-development flagship.

Samsung declined to comment on the report, though, so this puts all the details on the rumor side for now. Check out the video below for more speculations about what the "Galaxy S9" will be.
