The city of Hangzhou is looking for a "Modern Day Marco Polo" to discover the best places for tourists to visit and tweet about it.

The real Marco Polo called Hangzhou "beyond dispute the finest and the noblest in the world" said the Hangzhou Tourism Commission

The city is about 200 kilometers from Shanghai and the city is offering someone to be a "Dr. Hangzhou." The job is being offered by the Hangzhou Tourism Commission is offering US $51, 870 and constitutes spreading their travel experiences in the area via social media.

'When you entering here as a tourist, there are so many things and sights to see and explore - in fact you can spend weeks, if not months, here still haven't seeing it all. The richness of culture and historical spots combined with the many local specialities makes everyone feel very comfortable here," says visithangzhou.com.

The job includes starring in a promotional video for Hangzhou and being an overseas tourism promotional advisor for one year, reported CNN. The lucky winner will promote the city through photos, videos and social media platforms.

"Becoming Dr. Hangzhou appears a little trickier, however.

Applicants are required to register via their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest accounts. Twitter and Facebook are blocked in China," reported CNN.

To apply, applicants are expected to show off one of four online tasks: "My Chinese Name," "My Hangzhou Costume," "My Hangzhou Recipe" and "My Hangzhou Love Story."

The winner will be determined by the amount of activity such as tweets, likes etc via social media.

"According to state news agency Xinhua, the job listing on Facebook has already attracted numerous foreign applicants.

All were able to speak Mandarin fluently and, perhaps more importantly, showed off a glowing affection for Hangzhou. One wore an "I (heart) Hangzhou" T-shirt in his application," reported CNN.

The winner will be announced next year and receive a free cultural tour of Hangzhou for 15 days.
