Hawaii may still be in the United States, but it's a world away. And your trip to the 50th state will definitely be more fruitful if you can drop in something a bit more local than "Aloha."

Duolingo has partnered with a network of more than 50 schools teaching Hawaiian culture to bring a free ōlelo Hawaiʻi course to the app.

Over the past few years, there has been a movement in Hawaii to bring back the Hawaiian language. Those who are pushing re-education imagine a Hawaii where the language is so widely spoken, you could walk into a coffee shop and order with a "ke ʻoluʻolu."
