The latest release of the "Fast and Furious" franchise's instalment "The Fate of the Furious" was a smash hit. In view of the box office success, people at the Universal Studios are cooking up a spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson, Charlize Theron, and Jason Statham.

Sources tell Variety that the studio is thinking of a possible spin-off featuring Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham's Decker Shaw, and Charlize Theron's Cipher with Chris Morgan writing the script.

As of this time, no script has been penned yet and all the above-mentioned actors have not yet signified their intention to do the project. Johnson's character was eyed following the rise of his character's popularity in "Fast Five."

The studio has not moved forward with the spin-off but when Statham joined the series in "Fast 7," the plan was ignited as the two actors were noted to have an amazing on-screen chemistry. Theron's character was then considered as she played the villain role perfectly well. Now, the next consideration is the schedules of the actors.

Statham's calendar is full until next year and Theron has various offers that she might accept anytime. So the fate of the spin-off will depend on the star's schedules and the script will turn out.

Deadline reported that an idea is forming for Johnson's U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs to form an alliance with Decker Shaw played by Statham for a movie that could possibly appease the avid fans while they wait for the next "Fast and Furious" installment.

Johnson and Statham showed an incredible chemistry in "The Fate of the Furious." The film made $685 million worldwide in its second week. A spin-off is surely another hit knowing that it is a "Fast and Furious" inspired. Morgan is yet to start dreaming of a story that will revolve around the three actors' characters.
