For Extreme puppy lovers, Puppy Bowl is a major yearly event that, for some, is even better, and most certainly more adorable, than the Super Bowl.

Puppy Bowl is back on Superbowl Sunday for its ninth consecutive year on Animal Planet.

Animal Planet's website states, "Puppy Bowl IX brings viewers a loveable lineup that's itching to play in a winning combination of terrier tackles, touchdowns, puppy penalties, fumbles and Fido first downs. Featuring fan favorites like the Water Bowl Cam, tail-gating fans, and the hamster-steered blimp, this year's big game is sure to be a tail-wagger."

Now with their new "Cute Cam" puppy lovers can see slow motion replays of the puppies doing cute things. They also have hedgehog cheerleaders and a debut of the puppy hot tub where the furry pups can cool down and hang after a major workout on the field.

"From barking beagles and spunky spaniels to everything in between, we've got the cutest players taking the field on the most action-packed Sunday of the year," says Animal Planet's website.

For cat lovers, there is even a Bissel Kitten HalfTIME show.

"Last year the show, which pits pound puppies against one another in a dangerously cute game of faux football using chew toys, set records for the basic cable outlet, with 8.7 million total viewers during the 12 hours it aired," reported The LA Times.

The story line is something we work out in the edit," says executive producer Melinda Toporoff to The LA Times.

They have nearly 90 hours of footage filmed to go through and edit. "When you're dealing with subjects that nap one minute and poop the next you have to tease out a plot later," she added.

There's no real teams on puppy bowl or strategy for that matter. They are just placed in a 3 by 6 foot yard field with toys shaped like footballs and are left alone to play, like the adorable pups they are.

"It definitely has a cult following and it seems to get bigger and bigger every year," says Toporoff to The LA Times "We introduced Meep the tweeting bird (@meepthebird) last year and everyone from Snooki to Zooey Deschanel has tweeted about it. I think Zooey tweeted about it based on her own fervor and love for the special."
