The Rupert Sanders-Kristen Stewart affair that happened in 2012 was one of the most scandalous and unacceptable affairs in Hollywood. Well, because she was committed to her co-star Robert Pattinson at the time. Sanders was married and has kids. Stewart's infidelity to the "Twilight" co-actor was the bullet that caused the demise of their budding relationship. Thousands of fans' hearts were broken when the affair was discovered.

More than four years after, the director that was the subject of the cheating scandal was able to face the media head on when he was asked about it. He was promoting his film "Ghost in the Shell."

When asked about the lessons he learned from a relationship that has been scrutinized and condemned by the public, his answer was not apologetic. According to TheFix, Sanders said that the affair was something unexpected, and that was what life is.

He added, "You just have to brush yourself off and continue moving forward the best you can. Everyone makes mistakes. I am bound to make more mistakes and I wouldn't expect my life to be exciting if I didn't."

"If you took people off the table for a momentary lapse, there would be no one making art," said Sanders. The "Clouds of Sils Maria" star called her cheating act as a momentary indiscretion.

Initially, in 2012, he said that he was "utterly distraught" about the pain he has caused not just to his family but also to Pattinson. The "Café Society" actress stated that she was deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment after the affair was exposed.

Sanders has worked to repair his 11-year-old marriage with Liberty Ross at that time but they eventually separated. The divorce was filed in 2013 and finalized in 2014.

Elle wrote that Rupert Sanders was Stewart's director in "Snow White and the Huntsman." The relationship was so discreet that it happened at the back of Stewart's co-star on the film Liberty Ross, Sander's wife. Since then, the "Personal Shopper" star admitted that she is bi-sexual.

Four years after, Kristen Stewart had a series of same-sex relationships with SoKo, St. Vincent, Alicia Cargile, and Stella Maxwell. Robert Pattinson is now engaged to be married to British singer FKA Twigs while Rupert Sanders has no publicized relationships after the scandal.
