Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" is another masterpiece from the master filmmaker. Some of Gibson's notable works were "Braveheart," "The Passion of the Christ," We Were Soldiers," and "Apocalypto."

His latest film starring Andrew Garfied and Teresa Palmer was critically-acclaimed, well-done, deep and teeming with truths about life. Aside from the fact that the movie is a true-to-life story of Desmond Doss, it is also a reflection of the deeper meaning of humanity. Doss is a World War II soldier who became the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honour. It is the highest honor given to anyone who has done a heroic act.

Doss volunteered to go to war but refused to use a weapon. He hates violence because it was against his religious beliefs and his principles. He went to war because he said he cannot stay at home and watch the other soldiers lose their life in defense of their country.

He was able to save 75 of his fellow wounded soldiers alone. He was caught in the battle not to kill but to save lives. Miraculously, he was not wounded when most of his companions were killed.

What is notable in this film is Desmond Doss' faith in God. In the midst of war, he finds time to read his Bible. In the middle of the war, he talked to God and even asked for "one more" wounded soldier that he can save.

One important truth that can be learned in this movie is the power of prayer and faith in God. His faith made Doss believe that he can survive the battle despite being weaponless. It is also worth mentioning his being steadfast in his faith despite persecution.

According to Inquirer Pop, Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" was nominated for eight Oscar Awards that includes Best Picture and Best director. Andrew Garfield was nominated for Best Actor.

It has opened opportunities for members and non-members of Adventist churches to spread the gospel of Christ. According to SDA Mission people got interested in Bible studies after they watched the film. Teenagers volunteered to evangelize during theater screenings of Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge."
