"Metal Gear Solid" is a title that most gamers know all too well. It is credited for introducing the stealth mechanic in gaming and has since become one of the most successful and critically acclaimed gaming franchises of all time. With that being said, fans of the series will be happy to know that the "Metal Gear Solid" movie is still going to happen.

According to Collider, talks of a feature film adaptation of "Metal Gear Solid" has been in the works for a little while now and it gained a bit of steam in February 2014. Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been chosen to direct the movie. However, Vogt-Roberts soon became very busy after agreeing to direct the "Metal Gear" film for Sony as he also had to work on the reboot of Legendary's "King Kong". But now that "Kong: Skull Island" is about to hit theaters worldwide, Vogt-Roberts might finally have the time that he needs to devote to the "Metal Gear Solid" movie.

In the interview with Collider, the "Kings of Summer" director says that the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise is perhaps the most important one in the whole planet. He later praised the video game series created by Hideo Kojima, calling it a "genius, idiosyncratic work. Vogt-Roberts says he has been meeting with the legendary video game director recently and that it's "been like a dream."

As for the progress of the "Metal Gear Solid" movie and how it is coming along, Vogt-Roberts says they are currently working onits script. The director says the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise is unique because of how it has always had one voice, referring to Hideo Kojima.

There is still no word yet on who will be playing series protagonist Solid Snake or what type of direction the film's plot will be taking. However, Vogt-Roberts assures fans that he will "fight tooth and nail to make sure it is done properly." According to Gamespot, the "Metal Gear Solid" movie was first confirmed back in E3 2006.
