Messy Mya, the famous New Orleans rapper who was shot dead in 2010 is now the focus of a lawsuit against Beyonce. The sister of the rapper whose real name is Anthony Barre is suing Jay Z's wife for using Barre's copyrighted works in her "Formation" music video.

Angel Barre stated in her affidavit that her brother's voice, words, and performance from his copyrighted works were used without permission. She is suing for damages and royalties for the use of his songs "Booking the Hoes of New Wildings" and "A 27 Piece Huh."

She mentioned in the documents submitted to the court that if she will let the matter pass without any action, "it will impair her brother's reputation and credibility as a solo artist and not endorsing any singer." Angel Barre filed her case exactly one year after "Formation" was released. She also claimed that Beyonce's "Lemonade" video album and "Formation" committed copyright infringement according to The Advocate.

Washington Post reported that the sample was taken from a YouTube video of the late singer. The family is asking compensation in the amount of $20 million. The defendants for the case are Sony Music and a company from whom the couple got a home in New Orleans.

Barre's life was cut short after he was killed by a gunshot wound on November 14. It was the day memorable for him as he was at his baby's shower party. When he left the venue, the 22-year-old rapper was killed. His death became viral on social media after a photo of his corpse lying in a pool of blood appeared. His assailant was already known and faced the consequences of his act.

Beyonce or anyone from her camp has not issued any statement or made comments about the lawsuit. Stay tuned for updates on the Beyonce-Angel Barre case.
