After fifteen years and six films, the "Resident Evil" film series comes to an end with "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter". 2007's "Resident Evil: Extinction" was originally said to be the end of the franchise, but that was three chapters ago, and some fans eventually grew tired of the series as it seemed to have no ending in sight. However, despite being critical failures, the series has been a financial success and has grossed approximately $1 billion since the first movie, making it the highest grossing video game-based film adaptation of all time.

"The Final Chapter" sees Alice roaming the remains of what used to be Washington D.C. and she is now on a mission to save the remaining 4000 humans from becoming infected. Alice receives some unlikely help from "The Red Queen", the A.I. controlling Umbrella Corporation's supercomputer, and one of the antagonists of the first movie.

The Red Queen tells Alice to return to The Hive in Raccoon City as Umbrella has developed an airborne antivirus that can eradicate the T-Virus and everything it has mutated. However, she must reach the city in 48 hours before it is too late. Alice will also have to deal with Dr. Alexander Isaacs (Iain Glen), the doctor responsible for giving Alice more than a few headaches in the past films. Despite having been killed by Alice in "Extinction", the good doctor somehow manages to come back and look as if nothing happened.

Alice is joined by Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and newcomers Abigail (Ruby Rose), Doc (Eoin Macken) and Christian (William Levy). The movie does not disappoint in terms of action sequences and gore, and Jovovich is still a sight to behold in her portrayal of Alice as she displays nearly inhuman athleticism. However, according to Variety, the nonstop incoherence of the action scenes have a way of leaving the audience exhausted for all the wrong reasons.

Glenn Kenny of the New York Times calls it the weakest entry in the entire franchise. Truth be told, the "Resident Evil" series has been drawn out for way too long, and it should probably be time for it to be laid to rest. However, based on the ending of "The Final Chapter", the franchise still does not seem to get the send-off it deserves.
