Peter Capaldi one of the stars of "Doctor Who" has announced that the upcoming third series of the long-running time-travel series that he has been part of will also be the final one for him. The Scottish actor has announced that big thing during the BBC Radio 2 earlier this Monday.

According to Capaldi, this will be the end of him on the show and he felt sad about it. He even added that "Doctor Who" has been a fantastic program to work on for him. He has been so pleasured about working with the team and that he felt that this is the time for him to move into a different challenge, EW reported.

Further, the actor also said that he has been asked to stay and continue the role after the end of his current contract but he declined the offer. He emphasized that he loves doing the role, however, he was not sure anymore on how long will he be able to do his best, and if he cannot do his best anymore, then he won't do it.

He also revealed that he was still filming the current series up to this day and he has scenes to shoot where his Doctor Who is a two-hearted alien from the fictional planet of Gallifrey will begin the process of regenerating into one played by another.

According to the Guardian, Capaldi has been the 12th person to play the role, where it was also first played the time-traveling character in 2013. His decision also to leave has coincided with the exit of the show runner Steven Mofatt. Further, the actor will return to the final season as "Doctor Who" before he bid goodbye with Mofatt on December.

The new season of the series is set to premiere this spring. A new doctor is expected to be introduced during this year's special Christmas episode. Fans will be seeing him for the last time on Christmas 2017, Capaldi revealed.
